What: |
A
solemn remembrance held last September 11th will
be recreated to start a series of weeklong memorials
to honor those who died for our country in advance
of Memorial Day. From 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday,
May 21, 2005, volunteers from the Electrical Connection
and the Florissant Ambassadors will place more
than 1,600 flags from the region's first-ever
"Healing Field" at the soccer field
on the grounds of the James J. Eagan Civic Center
in Florissant, Mo. The "Healing Field"
flags will be offered for sale to the public all
week long to honor loved ones for Memorial Day.
The 3-foot-by-5-foot flags were the centerpiece
of last September's first-ever "Healing Field"
honoring those who lost their lives in the terrorist
attacks September 11, 2001.
A series of special events will be held throughout
the week while the flags are offered for sale
at $25 each with a portion of the proceeds benefiting
The BackStoppers, the Florissant DARE program
and other charities. The flags will be displayed
through Memorial Day, May 30th.
he St. Louis Electrical Connection, a partnership
of union electrical contractors and International
Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local
#1, donated $40,000 to make last year's Healing
Field possible.
