The more than one million-square-foot facility will accommodate the production of the newly designed Chevrolet Colorado midsize pick-up along with its existing full-size van, creating or retaining about 1,260 jobs hourly and salaried jobs. Working directly with GM to carefully plan each phase, PayneCrest took on an ever expanding scope of work and exceeded expectations on all scheduling benchmarks. PayneCrest installed virtually every major component of the assembly line process, from the body shop to the paint shop to general assembly. PayneCrest’s body shop work included installing a new 400,000-square-foot building addition and all new conveyers. In the paint shop, it delivered new automation, including new paint automation equipment and sealer robots. PayneCrest also upgraded ovens and delivered spray booths modifications while installing conveyers and process controls to optimize efficiency. General assembly work included installing new conveyers, modifying existing conveyers and installing new process equipment. Key to its success was PayneCrest’s ability to swiftly engineer and layout each phase of the project with precision during a trio of three-week-long plant shutdowns. It was able to efficiently manage manpower fluctuations as work peaked to more than 350 electricians. The Chevrolet Colorado made its debut in 2014.

The Abengoa plant will produce 25 million gallons of ethanol derived from nearly 350,000 tons of the earth’s most abundant organic feedstock source — plant fiber or cellulosic biomass. The residue of biomass will be combusted along with 300 tons/day of fry, raw biomass material (feedstock) to produce 18 megawatts of electricity. This power will make the entire facility energy efficient and environmentally friendly. Working with an intense seven-month schedule and managing 185 electricians, PayneCrest installed all medium and low voltage, instrumentation and controls and wiring for the plant. To keep the project on pace, it deployed seven designers on site to make modifications to engineering plans, streamlining installations and delivering optimal functionality.

PayneCrest powered the 74,000-square-foot grocery store, which hosts an international cooking school, a remote pharmacy, social gathering spots with entertainment, and even an escalator for shopping carts. As the region’s first grocery store with an underground parking garage, it presented enormous challenges in supplying 3,000-amp, 480-volt service, limiting PayneCrest to a minimum number of one-inch conduits beneath the main level. The project totaled more than 18,000 manhours without a recordable injury.

The Missouri Department of Transportation engaged PayneCrest in a mentor-prot├®g├® agreement to help BRK Electric Owner Marion Hayes on the minority firm’s largest project ever. PayneCrest dedicated Kenny Bassler to the project which included installing all roadway, river navigation, aviation, and aesthetic lighting for the cable-stayed bridge. In all, more than 31 miles of wiring was installed. PayneCrest was able to trim electrical costs by 17 percent through value engineering while helping BRK manage all aspects of this significant assignment.
